About the Event

Kariamu & Company: Traditions - A Legacy Concert is an evening-length showcase of contemporary African dance performance.  Located at the Conwell Dance Theater on Temple University's campus,  the historic venue for Kariamu & Company: Traditions' concerts for more than three decades,  the showcase will feature original works by Umfundalai's late progenitor, Kariamu Welsh, D. Arts, Umfundalai's senior master teacher, C. Kemal Nance, PhD, and a cadre of talented choregraphers who are developing innovative choreographies with African Diasporic dance.

Umfundalai Teachers' Ceremony - During this particular evening's performance, there will be a ceremony immediately following intermission during which NAAADT will award select dancers their professional teaching certification.  With movement, rhythm, and song, we will celebrate these dancers acension to professinal teaching status within Umfundalai's evolving tradition.
