
Application Process
For full consideration, you will need to provide the following pieces of information for our Online Application .

Title of the dance with the year of its premiere in parentheses.

Performers - Please list the names of all the live performers.

Music - Please list the names of any recorded music or sound. (Please secure the copyright permission.)

Description - Succinctly describe your work and how you think it constitutes Africanist dance. Please include when and where it was last performed.

Biography - Please provide a 50-word biography that highlights your eligibility for consideration. ( Please refer to "Who should apply..." description.)

URL - Link to video footage of the work you wish to be considered (must be complete OR well in progress – 75% complete) no passwords

Works should be no more than 12 minutes

No more than 5-7 dancers

Selection, Results, Notification, and Remittance

Selections will be made by the concert director in consultation with the NAAADT concert producing team.

Priority will be given to those who adhere to the requested criteria.

Further consideration will be given to the work that showcases high level dancing, well-developed choreographic skill, a creative artistic/aesthetic point of view, and an impactful presence that sits well with the other work to express the fullness and possibility of Africanist dance.

Approximately 5 works chosen to participate, given production and curatorial needs.

Selected applicants will be notified via email by or before Friday, January 19th , 2024.

Selected applicants must remit a mandatory $150 Production Fee to secure their place in the concert (paid to NAAADT – remittance details will be shared).

Selected applicants will receive constructive criticism/requests regarding their work (without compromising the work itself) that aligns it to the aesthetic and curation process of the production.

Results will be shared, individually, to the applicant.

Works selected for the showcase will be announced to the public along with concert marketing and publicity.

Selected applicants must secure licenses the use of any and all copyrighted material (music, poetry, etc.) by Friday, March 1, 2024.

Selected applicants must submit a clear video of completed work (if previously unfinished) by Friday, April 12, 2024.

There is no payment/honorarium associated with this opportunity.
